If you attended Lincoln Loves Locals you heard about our plans to reinvigorate our outdoor space, now we get to share our plans with all of our supporters! This new garden space will provide far more than just fruits and vegetables. It will serve as a key resource for our mission to empower young adults and prepare them for independent living, all while fostering personal growth and valuable life skills. The expanded garden will be a hub of educational programming, offering hands-on learning opportunities focused on nutrition, sustainability, and self-sufficiency. Young adults who participate in our programs will learn how to grow and care for their own food, gaining important skills in gardening and healthy meal preparation. The produce harvested from the garden will be used directly in The HUB's kitchen, where participants will engage in cooking classes to further develop their independent living abilities.
This renovated space will also serve as a serene and calming environment for the young adults served at The HUB. The natural surroundings will create a peaceful atmosphere that encourages mindfulness. In this tranquil space, individuals can disconnect from daily distractions and concentrate on personal growth, setting and working toward their goals. Through this project, we will transform a minimally used outdoor area into a vibrant, functional space that will help us achieve our mission of providing unconditional support and services to young people. By cultivating the garden and the life skills it teaches, we aim to empower them on their path to becoming independent and engaged members of the community.
We are deeply grateful for the generous donations we’ve received so far for our garden expansion project. A huge thank you to Vego Garden for contributing raised garden beds, Earl May for providing fruit bushes, SiteScapes for donating a picnic table, and Midwest Native Nursery for their gift of native plants. These contributions are helping us bring this vision to life and create a space where young adults can learn valuable skills and grow toward independence.
We are excited about the potential this project holds for enriching the lives of the young people we serve and the community at large. Stay tuned for more updates, and we welcome any support or involvement from those who would like to be part of this transformative initiative! If you would like to make a financial gift to support this project please use the link below designating the gift is for the garden project. If you have plants or other materials that would help us achieve our vision please reach out to Jordan at jordan@hublincoln.org or 402.471.8526.
